Friends and family gathered to watch them commit their lives to each other.  Ashley was beaming as she walked towards her future husband.

After grabbing some photos with the family we headed off to capture some photos of the two lovebirds along the river.  Such a pretty fall day!

I'm always honored to be able to capture wedding days!  I love being around love and these two were so in love!  I wish them many many years of happiness!!

Sarah and Frank's Wedding https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/10/sarah-and-franks-wedding Fun fact about Sarah and Frank....they are race car drivers!  Super awesome!

Their wedding was absolutely beautiful!

Sarah getting her hair and make up done getting ready to marry her best friend.  We can't forget beautiful Layla!

Who tried on mommy's wedding dress before the ceremony!  :)

Then mommy and her got to have a mommy daughter moment before the wedding festivities began.

The ceremony was held at the beautiful St. Anne's Catholic Church right here in Bethlehem.

We arrived at the Allentown Brewworks for the reception and had some time to sneak some more formals in by their brewing tanks and pool table!

The couple enjoying their first dance as a married couple.

I feel like Layla has better dance moves then me!  I think she was on the dance floor all night long.  I found out later that she took a hip hop class so she knew all the moves to Wobble. lol :)

We snuck away for some night shots insdie and outside Allentown Brewworks!!!  Yes I stop traffic for the bride and groom!  Love middle of the street photos!

Best of luck to Sarah, Frank and Layla!

Jessie and Matt's Wedding | Lehigh Valley Wedding Photographer https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/10/jessie-and-matts-wedding From the first time meeting Jessie and Matt I knew that their wedding would be really fun.  They're main goal was to have fun and celebrate with their closest friends and family.

I remember when talking to them that they met at "A Bar With No Name".  Seriously, that's the name of it.  It's located right here in Bethlehem!!!   Matt knew that he wanted to know Jessie more right away!  I find it super cute that after their reception was over, they went to that same bar.  The place where it all started so they could keep on celebrating!

I wish them a lifetime of happiness!!!!

Lisa and Kyle tied the knot! | Lehigh Valley Wedding Photographer https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/9/lisa-and-kyle-tied-the-knot-lehigh-valley-wedding-photographer

I am completely in love with the colors and details that Lisa used for her wedding!!!!  This beautiful wedding was hosted at Blair Academy in New jersey.  The grounds were absolutely awesome with all the stone buildings, archways and waterfall.

Lisa wanted a laid back and enjoyable wedding and that is just what she got.  The whole day was completely relaxed.  After getting ready she walked down the isle to her love and soon to be husband, Kyle.   They included their kids in their sand ceremony showing that their families are now joined together to become one family.

After being pronounced husband and wife we escaped to the waterfall to start some photos of them and their bridal party.   Lisa and Kyle then allowed me to take them all over the grounds to capture some more awesome pics of the happy couple.

Once completed we joined the guests for the remaining of the cocktail hour on the large outside porch for a massive all guests photo.

The hall the reception was held in was awesome and had some of the best lighting from an overhead vaulted window  that shined down on them during their first dance!  Simply stunning.

Kyle and Lisa are so in love and it was so great to be included in their wedding day!  I wish them a lifetime of happiness and can't wait to work with them again in the future.

Olive turned 1! | Lehigh Valley Family Photographer https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/9/olive-turned-1-lehigh-valley-family-photographer

So have you ever seen a baby so cute!!!  I still can't believe she turned 1!  I am loving the little tutu that her mom bought for her shoot.  Olive was such a little doll for her photos, I think she is getting used to me!!! haha.  She wasn't exactly sure about her cake and had to be bribed by her parents in order to try some.  Surprisingly most 1 year olds I see don't just dive into the cake like most people think.  But we can still get some cute pics :)

Laura & JRs Wedding } Lehigh Valley Wedding Photographer https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/8/laura-jrs-wedding-lehigh-valley-wedding-photographer

Laura planned such a beautiful backyard wedding!!!  She must have put so much planning into her day as there were soooo many details to capture!   Laura got ready at her mothers house and was completely surprised at how great she looked when she finished putting her dress on.  Laura normally doesn't dress up and was really excited to see what JR's reaction was going to be when he saw her in her lace wedding gown.

We then headed off to the ceremony site aka her backyard where she gained the approval of neighbors to use some property for parking all the cars of their 200+ guests.  When we arrived it was like a sea of cars.  But they had everything planned out and the 200 guests fit wonderfully into their plans.

The ceremony began and Cameron (their son) was brought down the aisle in a little red wagon which was completely adorable!   Laura and her father followed down the aisle towards the man of her dreams, JR.  The ceremony was truly wonderful filled with lots of lovely shared moments and lots of laughter when Cameron starting to run away when it was time to do the sand ceremony.

After the I Do's were said we took off to Kreidersville Covered Bridge for the Bridal Party photos.  We also made a pit stop at the Tavern by their house that was their main hang out when they were dating.  The owner was awesome enough to allow us to use the bar for some photos to help capture their day and their story.

We then headed back to their house or more specifically their backyard where the party commenced.   Guests enjoyed all the wonderful food, the games that were set up, the photo booth and a bouncy castle for the kids (or daring adults).  We then set off some lanterns later in the night that didn't go according to plan but were still beautiful.

They planned an awesome backyard wedding and I'm honored that I was able to be part of their wedding day by preserving the many memories for them through photos that can be enjoyed through the years.

Stephanie and Kyle are so fun to work with!  When Stephanie requested us to do her engagement photos on someone's property I didn't realize how great it would be!!!!   We were able to scamper off into the woods and take photos there as well as use the little stream.  Not many people are super willing to go into the water but they were all about it which I love!    I truly cannot wait until their wedding day!!!  With all the details they explained they were working on I can tell it's going to be awesome!

Why Get A Professional Wedding Album vs. DIY Albums https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/8/why-get-a-professional-wedding-album-vs-diy-albums So I know this can be a touchy subject for a lot of people.  Brides and Grooms are constantly looking for ways to save money for their wedding day and opting for a DIY album compared to getting an album professionally made by your photographer often tends to happen.

I have decided to write this post to help the brides and grooms out there who are on the fence about getting an album professionally made or making one themselves.

First let me start off that your wedding is one of the most important days of your life!  You have put so much time, sweat and tears along with lots of money in order to plan out the perfect wedding day!  Now as a photographer I'm a bit biased in regards to photography being one of the most important aspects of the day.  The venue sets the tone for the wedding (barn weddings get the rustic feel etc) The food is of course important as you want your guests to enjoy what you have selected.  The DJ controls the mood of the room.  I have seen numerous DJ's that simply did not understand the crowd they were catering to.  A great DJ reads the crowd and will always play what will get the most guests to enjoy themselves.  People remember the party and how much fun they have.  So I really do believe in making sure you have an amazing DJ!  Videographers capture the most important aspects of the day so you can sit back and watch the moments unfold.  Some of which were seen and you were a part of and some moments that you missed during the craziness of the day.

Wedding video's and wedding photos are the only tangible items that you get to keep from your day.  A good photographer and videographer should be able to capture every aspect and emotion of the day for you so when you look back on the day from years to come, it will be recreated in beautiful detail that will help trigger lots of happy memories that were shared with family and friends.  This is why I think photography and videography are some of the most important parts of the wedding.  But like I said, I'm biased!!!  :)

So here is my reasoning showing why a professional wedding album vs a DIY album may be better for you.  Trust me, I'm a bargain hunter so I completely get that the price tag for professional wedding albums can be a bit scary sometimes.  But trust me, they are worth it!

First, my reasoning to getting a wedding album created in the first place.

1. Technology is always changing.  I offer the digital files for all of my sessions and weddings.  Clients are able to share on social media and from their iPads, tablets and phones.  However, that iPad isn't going to last forever.  So when you go to look back on your photos 10 years from now, they could be difficult to find.

2. Wedding albums are fun to show off!  There is just something different about sitting down on the couch with a loved one and paging through your wedding album versus sitting on a computer to look at all 1000 images your photographer gave you.  Looking at that many images on the computer can be tiresome and towards photo 800 you are just done!  A wedding album is designed to recreate the mood and emotions of the day while capturing all the important moments to reminisce on.   I once heard a story about a bride and groom looking at their wedding album every anniversary.  Sitting back on their couch and paging through all the photos and sharing different memories they have of that day.  What a great way to remember your wedding day!!  I really don't think the same effect would be had sitting at your computer and looking at every image of the day or sitting on the couch looking at the images saved to your phone on a 4 inch screen.  It's the tangible things that often recreate the strongest emotions.

3. Imagine 50 years from now sitting down with your grandchildren and spouse and going through your wedding album page by page.

4. Visual Storytelling.  A well created album will tell the story of your entire date.  This makes every album as unique as every wedding.  I often see some clients go and design their own album and just select photos they like rather then photos that tell a story.  When your photographer creates your album and helps pick the images to go in your album, it will be to tell the story of your day.

So why should you have your photographer help create your album rather than a do it yourself album?

1.  Often times clients are so frazzled by the time their wedding comes and passes that the last thing you want to do is sit down and page through hundreds if not a 1000 images and pull some to create an album.  Lets face it, we are allllllll soooo busy!   It is hard to sit down and commit time to actually put together your wedding album.   The reason photographers charge so much for their albums is because they put hours of work into them and not because they want to make a quick profit.  There is nothing quick about the album design process.

2. Your photographer knows your story.  Knows the story of your wedding day and all the aspects that unfolded throughout the day.  Even as they are working on the edits of the photos they are thinking of what photos would work perfectly in a wedding album.

3. When your photographer is photographing your wedding, they are probably shooting certain items for the album specifically that will help tell the story of your day.

4.  Like I mentioned above, many brides/grooms choose photos that they like rather then photos that tell your story.  Yes you want photos you like in your album.  However, wouldn't you rather look back and see a story unfold as you page through your album, rather then a bunch of random photos?  If you express what is important to your photographer of to include in your album they will make an appoint to make sure some of those photos are included.

5. DIY albums are often on thinner pages that can ripe or fade over time.  Professional wedding albums are made on photographic paper with super thick pages that feel more like cardboard then paper.

6.  The Craftmanship.  Do it your self albums are often cheaper because they are mass produced.  Everything in the album is automated allowing prices to remain lower.  However, professional albums are bounded by hand and every step of the process is looked over by a real live person!  I keep saying that I want to get a Shutterfly or Blurb album developed so clients have a tangible example of the differences in the DIY vs the Professional wedding albums.

7. DIY album companies often have "drag and drop" technology making your album the same as other wedding albums.   Your wedding was super unique and your wedding album should reflect that.

Now I try to make my album process as easy as possible.  Why not let your photographer do all the hard work of creating your album so you can sit back and enjoy your newly married life together.  Then once you receive your album you can enjoy it for years to come!

Kate and Ian's engagement session was adorable.  We decided on checking out Louise Moore park which I have to say that I have never been there before.  Kate was of course all about getting photos done and Ian...not so much, haha.  It's ok because the guys normally don't like getting their photos taken so I'm used to it!! :)

They were so fun and relaxed to work with and I am very much looking forward to their wedding....that just happens to be on my 30th birthday!!!  :)  I LOVE weddings so I can't wait to capture their day!

Ryan and Nicole's Wedding | Lehigh Valley Wedding Photographer https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/7/ryan-and-nicoles-wedding-lehigh-valley-wedding-photographer

I really don't think I have ever met a more relaxed bride.  If there was an opposite to bridezilla - it would be Nicole!  She was completely awesome and laid back on her wedding day!

The wedding was held at First Church of Nazarene in Bethlehem, PA.  This church is really special to the couple, as the huge stained glass window in the back of the church that her great grand parents purchased for the church.

Her bouquet also had a cross hanging from it that belonged to Nicole's grandfather which was super special.

The ceremony was a beautiful small and intimate wedding with closest family and friends in attendance.

Afterwards, we headed off to Bethlehem Rose gardens for photos with the Bride, Groom and Bridal party.

Everything turned out beautifully and Nicole, Ryan and the entire bridal party were so great to work with!

The Demerast Family | Lehigh Valley Family Photographer https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/7/the-demerast-family

Oh, the Demerast family.  I love them!

Pippa (the oldest daughter) is such a little ham.  Of course she just wanted to run around and play, but that's expected :)

Her sister Lilah pretty much took over the show though and was just all smiles through the whole session.

It is so great to see this family grow!  I have actually known Mike for years from a previous job and it's great to see him as Mr. Family now.  Amanda is such an awesome mom and I love working with them every so often!  It's crazy how fast the little munchkins grow though!  I feel like it was seriously like last month that I was doing Pippa's 1 year photos and Lilah's newborn pics.  They are both beautiful little ladies and have their parents awesome personalities!

I can't wait to work with them again soon! :)

I am so looking forward to what their wedding day will bring ;)

Crystal & Zack's Wedding Day & Photo Booth | Lehigh Valley Wedding Photographer https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/7/crystal-zacks-wedding-day-photo-booth-lehigh-valley-wedding-photographer

Crystal and Zack were a truly unique couple!  Their wedding was hosted at the Bank Street Annex which was our first time shooting at this venue.  The venue had so much personality and Crystal and Zach did a wonderful job adding their own accents to the day.  I loved the ring holder with their date!  So unique!  It's great seeing so many different ideas coming together for the wedding day.

Formal photos were taken outside in the alley where we literally were taunted with amazing smells from an ice cream shop down the street who was making home made waffle cones....yum.  The alley had tons of murals and made for such a different and awesome spot to do some family photos.  We were also able to take a walk to the circle in Easton, PA and get some photos there as well.

Crystal and Zach also decided to have a photo booth which was especially awesome and run by my second photographer (and husband), Dan.  It was great seeing everyone from the youngest baby to the eldest guest have fun with it!  Everyone got to enjoy the same day slideshow of the photos as well!

Crystal and Zack were such a laid back and wonderful couple to work with!  I wish them all the happiness in their marriage:)

Wedding Day Timeline Tips https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/7/wedding-timeline-tips

So if you’re anything like me, you’re OCD organized and have all your wedding day times down on a spreadsheet and print them out in a nice neat little packet for all your bridal party.  Yeah, I know, I’m a little crazy!

However, while you may not want to go to this extreme when planning your wedding day timeline, you do want to make sure you allow adequate time for each area of your day….and then some.  Weddings are extremely exciting and with so many people involved, can often get off track.   As the photographer, I try to keep to my timelines but there are some things that I can’t control.  So here are my tips for your big day to hopefully help things move a little smoother without stressing you out!  We want the bride nice and relaxed because if you’re stressed….then you’re photos will look like you’re stressed.  And I don’t think either of us want that!!!!

1.       Make sure your entire bridal party knows the time that they are expected to arrive at the start of things, what location they are to go to (with the address) and what they are to have with them.   Sounds simple, but if one member of the bridal party is late for hair and makeup it could put a time crunch on the following areas of the day.

2.       Make sure you discuss with your stylist how long it’ll take to do each person’s hair and makeup…..and then plan extra time just in case.  This is to help in case someone originally said no to getting their hair/makeup done and now wants it.  If Hair “Just isn’t cooperating” or someone is getting a more intricate style.   Less stress=happier brides.

3.       If you want mom to put on your jewelry or something….make sure mom knows prior to the day.  I often see mom’s doing their part in trying to keep the day on track that they aren’t able to stop into the bridal suite to be part of these moments.

4.       If you are going to be having a receiving line, please plan it into your time.  I once had a wedding with over 150 guests that did a receiving line that took over 45 minutes….of picture time.  We had about 20 minutes to bang out the family formals and the bridal party and bride/groom pics.  It got done but was extremely rushed.  In these times, you will see the drill sergeant come out in me.  My loud “Italianess” shines and is needed to get everyone organized.  So don’t stress if it happens.  Just try to plan some extra time between the ceremony ending and the photos.

5.       Plan for travel time.  Many people don’t plan for the time it takes from the ceremony location to the park or formal photo location and then to the reception.

6.       Also realize, trying to gather everyone together for the photos is probably the most time consuming thing.   Make sure your bridal party doesn’t disappear.  Put a family member in charge of gathering key people that are to be in photos.  Or let the family that is to be in the photos, know that they are to remain close to the chosen picture spot to get photos done.  I normally get the family photos out of the way, then do bridal party photos done and then release them to the reception while I work with just the bride and groom.

7.       How important are photos to you?  Photographs are one of the only items that you can keep of the day that captures the memories of the whole day.  If you cherish photos like I do, then you may want to plan for a little more than an hour total for all the formal photos.  Maybe an hour for the family & bridal party and then an additional ½ an hour for just the bride and groom.  Some photographers actually ask for a shoot prior to or after the wedding day to capture the bride and groom formals together.  While I choose not to go this route, a little extra time would be awesome to capture more variety! Yes we can get the photos done quickly.  But if you’re looking to have a ton of photos of just you and your love then planning a little more time for this would allow for a nice relaxed feel for the photos and give us a little more leeway with how much we can capture.  I had one Bride and Groom that had an hour just for them and it was fabulous.   We hit up as many spots as we could.  We were able to go for a large variety of poses and capture a lot more of just the bride and groom.

8.       When you plan your start time for the photographer, keep the end time of your package in mind as well.  If you chose a shorter hourly package, then having the main events of the reception that you want captured closer to the beginning of the reception helps.  Walking in, going right into dances then into speech’s etc.  If we’re not at the reception long, we may have to pose the cake as well or cut the cake a little earlier than normal.

9.       Sparkler photos or night photos.  They are truly awesome and I LOVE doing them.  It takes about 10 minutes or so out of your night.  My second shooter will go set up the location (if need be) and then we will come get you both and whisk you away.   However, we sometimes forget that in summer it doesn’t get dark until around 9.  So just make sure that if these are something that your dead set on, to plan your start time, so we are still there when it’s dark out.

10.   Know what time your DJ is going to be announcing you or what time he/she needs you back to get the bridal party in their order to walk in.  I will aim to finish photos prior to this time so the whole day can stay on track.

Weddings are one of my favorite events to capture.  Every wedding is unique and it’s the happiest day of the couple’s life!  I’m truly honored to be a part of it!  I will do everything in my power to make your day run smoothly regardless of the items listed above.  I am on your time and I adapt very well to changing situations.  All I ask is that you trust me to do my part to capture your day.  If you do, you’ll be able to rest assured and enjoy your day knowing that we know our tasks and will accomplish them.

I'm not sure why I love Red so much with weddings.  It's just one of those classic things that will never get old.  Dasheedah and Antonio's were adorable together and their daughter was pretty cute too!  Dasheedah's dress was amazing and they both chose such a fun group to be part of their bridal party on their special day.

Dirk and Charissa's Wedding | Lehigh Valley Wedding Photographer https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/7/dirk-and-charissas-wedding

Dirk and Charissa's wedding was truly two families coming together.  This family was so close and just loved having fun together.   They had a beautiful intimate wedding with their closest family and friends.  Whom after the ceremony all gathered for a photo of everyone at the wedding which I think was awesome.  They were able to capture everyone that came to celebrate the day with them.

We then headed off to Monocacy Park in Bethlehem to take some fun photos of the entire family together.  This was also the first time every, that I had the bride want to have other guest patrons "photo bomb" with them.   The guests at the park were so excited to be able to celebrate their wedding day together with them.

The Reception was held at the Bethlehem Brew Works and was a great time for them to hang out with their guests and just enjoy their time with each other.  Dirk also put together a slideshow of photos from all their adventures which was really awesome to see!

This family really knows how to live and have fun and I'm thankful that I was able to celebrate the day with them and capture their love for each other.

Congratulations to Dirk and Charissa and the family!

Little Ava https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/6/little-ava I was able to capture Ava at 3 months, 6 months, 9 months and 1 Year!  I seriously cannot grasp how FAST time goes!  She is such a sweetly mannered little munchkin....who wasn't quite sure what she was doing with her cake for her cake smash.  But after a little assistance she had no problems diving right in.  I really do love watching the babies grow up!  Each session their personalities showed a little more and more.  Although at the 1 Year sessions, I tend to get a little sad as I won't be able to see them grow every 3 months!   So being the semi nostalgic (which doesn't come out often) person that I am, I included a photo from each session with little Ava!  I can't wait to see her again in the future to see how much more she has changed!

Lesley and Tony's Winery Engagement https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/6/lesley-and-tonys-winery-engagement I'm not sure why, but I never thought of doing an engagement session at a winery before.  I have all these "spots" that I normally shoot at and am always looking for fun different locations.  So I was super excited when Lesley and Tony suggested to have their engagement session at a local winery!

When Dan and I arrived at Tolino's vineyards, Lesley and Tony were already there camped out at a picnic table with glasses of wine, cheese, fruit, some AWESOME chocolate covered coconut and all sorts of goodies.  Visiting different wineries is something that they both enjoy.  They love bringing all sorts of stuff and just spending time there relaxing together and enjoying different types of wine.  It also helped loosen them up a bit for pics ;)

They *seemed* like they had such a good time doing their photos.  I honestly tell people to bring on the flirting when we do their photos.  Good ole honest flirting makes for some really cute pics! I hope they enjoyed themselves as much as Dan and I did!!

Parker's Newborn photos https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/6/parkers-newborn-photos Mr. Parker was adorable.  I was super excited that my new props came in time.  I'm loving the little newborn nest and the wraps.  Parker stayed asleep for most of his session.  Once he woke up he was a doll as well. I simply love newborns and they have to be one of my favorites to do.  Although, who am I kidding, I love all sorts of photography.  But newborns are super special and I'm always honored to be able to capture one of their first few days of life.

Sarah and Frank's Engagement https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/6/sarah-and-franks-engagement

I really do LOVE engagement sessions!!  They are so laid back and gives you a chance to get to know the couple.....and they're adorably daughter Layla!!!  Like how they are both really into racing.  I forget the type of racing (sorry, mommy brain) but it sounded pretty awesome....especially since Frank used to race in them!  So of course Dan (second shooter) and him started to go off about cars and I had no idea what they were talking about, haha.  They of course had to incorporate their love for racing into their engagement photos so they both wore their different racers shirts. Frank, Sarah and Layla were so fun and I can't wait to capture their wedding this fall!

Mr & Mrs Moyer https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/5/mr-mrs-moyer Gary and Debbie were such a pleasure to work with!  I was able to capture some photos a few days prior to the wedding as well as on the wedding celebration day.  Now I say wedding celebration day as this couple had the awesome experience of getting married in Hawaii on the beach.  So Jealous!  They had photos from their Hawaiian wedding playing via slideshow during their reception and everything look so beautiful!   Then they got to come home and celebrate with friends and family at the beautiful Green Pond Country Club.  I wish them all the best!

It is really awesome to be there for someone's wedding and then get to capture the joy of being pregnant!  I loved working with Laura and Tom for their wedding and again enjoyed working with them capturing some maternity photos for them!   They are so in love and baby Khloe is very lucky to have them as parents!  They are so goofy and wanted that captured as well!  Baby Khloe has arrived safe and sound and I'm very anxious to get to meet her too!

Leslie and Juans Wedding Day https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/5/leslie-and-juans-wedding-day

Leslie and Juan's wedding was simply stunning!!!  Ceremony and Reception both took place at the Lovely Meadows in Hellertown.  Leslie looked like a true fairytale bride in her awesome dress!!!  I really don't think I've seen a dress with a skirt that big before!  I loved it :)   There is so much love between Leslie and Juan that it is clear to everyone around them how much they mean to each other.   I loved that they were excited to go out and get some night portraits!!!  I know it's hard to step away from the party sometimes, but night portraits are quickly becoming my favorites to shoot at weddings!

I wish them all the best and can't wait to work with them again in the future!!!

Here is another night one that I loved!!!!

Mary & Patrick's Wedding https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/5/mary-patricks-wedding

8 Flower girls and one little ring bearer!!!  It was great to see Mary and Patrick include all of their grandkids in their wedding day!!!   They were such a fun loving and easy couple to work with!  Wedding Ceremony took place at the beautiful St. Jane Frances and the reception was held at the Leithsville Fire Company in Hellertown. Instead of the DJ, the couple had a live band which was such a nice change of pace.  Patrick even did his own solo on the trumpet which was beautiful!  Such a lovely wedding that I was honored to be able to capture!!!

Enjoy!!!!

Margarita and Danny were such a wonderful couple to work with!   Their wedding took place at the Almond Tree in Alpha, NJ.  Margarita did all of the decorations herself and they looked awesome!   Danny decorated their truck with wedding day decor too!   Their two kids were adorable as well and took part in the sand ceremony with their mom and dad.

Congratulations to both of them and their family!

Tips for your Engagement session https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/4/tips-for-your-engagement-session I know engagement sessions are personal favorites to photograph for Dan and I (my husband and your second shooter).   They are just a fun and relaxed way to get to know each other a little better and also helps you get more comfortable in front of the camera prior to the big day!!!  You'll also get used to how we pose our photographs.

I still have some couples that aren't really sure what an engagement session entails.  I like to tell people that it serves a few purposes.  1. To get more comfortable in front of a camera and working with me, your photographer.  2.  You get some awesome photos of you and your soon to be hubby/wifey for more photos to hang up around the house and show off!   I love wedding photos, but it's kind of nice to have some every day photos as well.  I like to try to incorporate personalities of the couple into the session.  So if you're really into wine, have your own quirky jokes or things of that nature that you would like to incorporate into your session, just let me know!!!!

So on that note, see below for some tips and tricks that I have gathered to help you prepare for your session!

1. Check out my previous engagement sessions on my website.  Or look around on pinterest etc.  This will help you have an idea of what you like in a photo.  If you like to use props and also help you come up with a set location.

2.  Think about what you would like to do with the photos.  Hang them on the wall?  Create an album for your guest sign in book?  There are all sorts of ideas out there!

3.  Ladies, before the engagement session, decide if you would like your hair and make up done.  Sometimes this will give you the extra confidence boost just knowing that you look your best for your photos!

4. Think about what you would like to wear for the session.  There are tons of ideas out there so search away!!!  You could go fancy, or western. Or wear something that you feel like you look your best in.  You don't need to match!!!!!  (Please no).  But something the compliments each other always looks good!  I like to try to have couples remember, that the wedding will be more formal with your clothing.  So you may want to pull something from your "everyday" wear.   It's great to have some casual pics of each other around your place!

5. If your a pet lover and want to bring them along, go for it!!  Although, one tip I like to say, is bring treats as this will help get the pets attention.  Also, you may want to bring someone along to help with the pet.  This way you can have some photos of just you two as well!

6. Try not to go tanning before your session.  If you have visible tan lines, it may be best to reschedule your session date.  Sunburn photos aren't pretty ;)

7. Ladies, please try to leave the purse at home.  Guys, please try to take everything out of your pockets.  I will be happy to put car keys and such in my camera bag so you are able to lock your car up to keep your belongings safe.

8.  Try to think if there is anything that is unique to your and your future spouse that you may want to incorporate into the session.   (Photographing at a place you met, shared hobbies, sports etc).  This will help make your session unique!

9.  If I suggest an idea that you aren't fond of.  Just tell me!!  You won't hurt my feelings, promise!  I understand that each couple is looking for something slightly different.

10.  Relax and have fun.  That is the main reason I love doing engagement sessions!  They are so much more relaxed and fun.   Honestly the best photos are the ones where your just naturally being yourself with each other!!!

Last but not least, get your flirt on!  I know it sounds silly and many have been together for so long they "forget" how to flirt.  I pretty much will give you a "starting" pose and you can smile, kiss, look at each other, nuzzle each other, take the one by surprise and do something that will bring out a natural smile/laugh.  I had a couple that thought they weren't photogenic at all when we started their session.   I told them to start flirting and to do a few certain things and it ended up being one of my favorite sessions because they were so relaxed and natural with each other.

Hope this helps!!!  If you ever have any questions (even if you aren't quite ready to plan your session) let me know!!  I love answering peoples questions.  I feel so much better when I'm prepared so I understand when I get peppered with questions :)

Tips for your Newborn Session https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/4/tips-for-your-newborn-session Anyone that knows me knows that I am in LOVE with ALL babies!!!!  They are just so adorable!!!  It is such a treat to be able to capture the first few days of a babies life so it can be cherished in years to come!!!

If you have set up a session or are considering setting up a session with me or any other newborn photographer, please see some below tips that I have accumulated in order to help your session move as smoothly as possible.

First off Newborns are best photographed between 4-10 days of life.  You know those awesome sleepy shots, well they were most likely done during this time frame.  After the two week mark the baby starts to stay awake for longer amounts of time and becomes more and more alert.  Now, even if you schedule your session in this time frame, your baby still may decide to stay awake during the session.  But don't worry there are so more tips below to help with that and if they do want to stay awake, well they are still adorable!

Decide who you may want in your photos ahead of time.  Sibling photos are great but often the older sibling gets a little antsy if they have to wait until the end of the session to have their turn with baby.  I would have the sibling photos/family photos first and then have a family member or friend there to help watch the sibling during the remainder of the session.

If there are any colors or themes that you want to try to incorporate into the photos then let your photographer know.  If you are more of a bold color person or more natural colors for instance.  Or if you want to try and keep with the colors of the nursery etc.  Otherwise I'll just pick out some super cute things to bring to your session based on what I'm feeling that day.

I am an on location photographer.  Meaning I do not have a studio.  One day maybe, but for now I will travel to your home in order to do the photos.  Newborns may be super tiny, but they come with A LOT of photography props.  On your session day, be sure to make note of where the best lighting is in your house and try to clear as big of an area as you can.  Backdrops and props take up a nice chunk of space so it helps if an area is cleared out ahead of time.   If you would like to end your session with some "lifestyle" shots of you and baby around the house, in babies crib, on the bed, couch etc then be sure to make sure the area is free of clutter.

If you have something sentimental that you would like to include in the photos, set it aside and let me know so I can plan accordingly.

If you are nursing, try to avoid eating anything spicy that could upset the baby's tummy for 24 hours preceding the session time.  If you are bottle feeding, be sure to have lots of extra bottles for baby.

Try to keep baby awake for 1-2 hours before the session start time to ensure he or she is sleepy for the session.  Give the baby a bath, interact with baby or anything to keep baby alert for as long as possible.  This way, you'll have a session full of sleepy baby photos!!

Try to feed baby as close to the session start time as possible.  If the baby is a quick eater, feel free to wait until I get there to start feeding.  I have to unload all my gear and set up backdrops and things anyways so it'll give you some additional time!

Dress baby in loose clothes and put diaper on loosely to avoid any lines in their skin.  Anything you have to pull over the babies head will most likely wake them up!

Keep the house super warm for baby.  If your baby is going to be in their birthday suit most of the time then keeping things warm will help keep him or her comfortable for the duration of the session.

If the baby takes a pacifier be sure to keep it handy!  This will help tremendously in keeping baby asleep!

Sessions last between 1-2 hours.  Please feel free to relax and either watch, catch up on reading or anything around the house as I know this is a long time to simply sit and watch me take photos of your little one.

If you have ideas for your session let your photographer (or me) know!  We LOVE incorporating something unique into your session whenever possible!   If you would like to see any backdrops or props that I have please let me know and I can send you a gallery collection of what I have on hand.

Babies have to be one of my favorite things to photograph!

Last but not least, do not wait until last minute to schedule your session.  Schedule a tentative date based on your due date and we can adjust accordingly if you deliver early or late.  I make sure to stay in contact with my moms to see if we are still on schedule or if we need to adjust our contracted session time.  Babies are unpredictable so we're prepared to work around babies timeline a bit!

Mrs & Mrs Moscatell https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/4/mrs-mrs-moscatell

These two lovely ladies hosted their wedding at the Cosmopolitan in Allentown.  Cosmopolitan had the perfect sized ballroom with amazingly high ceilings and some pretty crazy chandeliers.

Sarah and Brenda both looked beautiful in their gowns and their converse sneaks!  Brenda looked so different from when I last saw her at their engagement session, that I seriously didn't recognize her!!!  Kind of embarrassing to admit but she looked so different in her gown!

Of course I have to give a shout out to the fact that their wedding had a photography theme.  Every table had a different vintage camera as the centerpiece!  Canon, Nikon, Sony, Kodak, they were all represented!  The napkin holders even had little camera's on them!

These two were amazing to work with and had such a beautiful day!!!  I wish them all the best!

Wedding Day Timeline Tips https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/1/wedding-timeline-tips

2014 - A Pretty Awesome Year https://www.catrinacarlsonphotography.com/blog/2015/1/2014---a-pretty-awesome-year I'm just going to start off saying I am in no way a great writer.  I'm a photographer!  I do not have a way with words like some people are blessed with.  However, I do want to share things along the way that could help brides and future clients see my work as well as some thoughts that I have.

So here it goes.  My first blog post.  Oh the butterflies are fluttering, haha.

2014: I started the year out not thinking that it was going to be my best photography year yet.

So what has changed so much in 2014 that has help set me up to have a Rockin 2015?

  • My website was born.
  • I set goals that were way to low in 2014 and ended up almost 4x the amount of weddings that I anticipated me having the pleasure to photograph.  I think my goals for this year are more challenging and I believe that I can make them which is exciting!!!
  • One of the biggest changes as that my husband's interest in photography grew as well and now he is my second shooter for weddings/events!!!  Which is awesome!  Who wouldn't want to work with their best friend all the time, right?!?!
  • I have also learned a ton of new techniques that I love and will improve on more this coming year.
  • I also never thought that there would be a glimmer of hope at doing something that I love full time.  I now see that there is plenty of potential of doing photography full time so I can now set goals for that.  It's in the not so distant future and my mind is buzzing with all the potential things that I could do to expand my photography business when I am able to concentrate on it full time!!!  Oh the possibilities!!!!
  • 2015 will be the first year that I will be offering custom designed albums.  I haven't started including them in my packages yet, but they are out there as an a la carte option.  I love the process of making the albums and I can't wait to be able to start providing these to my clients!!!
  • I can now be found on the world wide web!!  Now, you may wonder, "You have a website why wouldn't you be found on the web????"  I've learned that if you type in "Catrina Carlson Photography" into a Google search, that yes I would come up as a result.  However, I wanted to be found on generic searches that people do.  What happens when someone needs something and don't know where to find it?  They Google it! Being able to change and adapt my website to be able to be found is an ongoing process and something I need to continue to work on for 2015.
  • Better equipment.  Now, the equipment doesn't "make" the photographer.....however, I have to say that the better equipment is soooo much easier to work with!!!!!!  Now sporting not one, but two Canon 5d Mark iii's has helped a lot!  Love them!!!!

So yeah, 2014 was pretty awesome and will be hard to beat!  BUT, I have every intention to knock 2014 out of the water with what is in store for 2015.  And I have to say, I can't wait to see what 2015 has in store!!!

Be on the look out for many more blog posts from me!  I'll soon be featuring some of the weddings that I have worked along with some other shoots as well!
